After the day’s deadlines, Cebu media’s men and women showed their lighter side during the closing fellowship party of the 15th Cebu Press Freedom Week
Reporters, editors, correspondents, photographers, announcers and crew showcased their talents in song, dance and acting at the new JSU-PSU Mariners Court at the port area.
It was an MTV contest, after all, and journalists of ten “beats” wanted to win.
The Defense – PNP Press Corps (DEPP) bagged first prize with a romantic dance interpretation of “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang”.
Laughter filled the hall when the Media in Cebu South (MICS) channeled the Balili land controversy in a witty version of “Baleleng”, winning second prize. Monks who burst out with a gay pageant won third place for the Lens Group of photographers and cameramen.
Spoofs were part of the evening’s delight - Tomas Osmeña, Jonathan Guardo and a corpse were there, including Gov. Gwen Garcia and “nobody-but-you” Juan Bolo.
Other groups jived: City Hall Association of Reporters in Media (CHARM), Capitol Association of Reporters in Trimedia (CART), Regional Journalists in Cebu (REJOICE), Media Alliance for Law, Liberty, Equality and Truth (MALLET) and Cebu Economic Journalists Assoñciation (CEJA).
And what about the columnists? “Next year, we’ll be there performing too,” said Sun.Star columnist Bobby Nalzar,w ho enjoyed the show.
