Talisay street named after Cebu editor

First Posted 11:28:00 09/27/2009

A STREET in Talisay City is now named after a veteran Cebu newspaper editor.

The marker of Jose Logarta Street was unveiled yesterday in honor of the late editor of The Republic News.

The ceremony was led by Talisay Mayor Socrates Fernandez and journalistconvenors of the 2009 Cebu Press Freedom Week with barangay officials.

Logarta’s wife Teodora and children were on hand to witness the unveiling of the street sign of the newly asphalted road that connects the national highway to Seaview Heights.

His son Viking, an economist based in Manila and former news editor of the Freeman, thanked Cebu journalists and the Talisay City Council for the honor.

The late Logarta was remembered for his verses in “Canto Voice” in the now defunct Republic News and a long career in print journalism that started in the 1950s and included a stint in San Diego, California as section editor of the Philippine American News until his death in 1987./Correspondent Fe Marie Dumaboc
