Cebu Vice Gov. Greg Sanchez said he wasn't feeling well when he declined to attend the governor's ball and the founding day program of the Cebu provincial government to celebrate its 440th anniversary.
But Sanchez admitted that the real reason he skipped the Wednesday ball and the program the next day was an unresolved political matter between him and Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.
He took offense at Governor Garcia's plan to invite Tuburan Mayor Constancio Suezo and his wife Vice Mayor Rosemarie Suezo into the One Cebu party.
Sanchez said the couple?s entry into the administration party was unacceptable and ?non-negotiable.?
?I am still vice president of the One Cebu party but there's a little matter that should be resolved,? Sanchez told CEBU DAILY NEWS.
Sanchez clarified that he remains loyal to the party.
He also said the governor was aware he is organizing his own group in his hometown of Tuburan.
?If the governor says that Tuburan is a free zone then so much the better,? Sanchez told CDN.
Garcia, who was attending the wedding of her daughter Ma. Experanza Christina Codilla and Liloan mayor Vincent Duke Frasco, could not be reached for comment yesterday.
As vice governor and Garcia's vice president in the One Cebu party, Sanchez is often tasked to deliver the opening message in Capitol programs.
He was present during the opening of the One Cebu expo last Friday but only joined Garcia for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
He spent most of his time at his private company's booth at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).
The vice governor said he doesn't support Garcia's plan to accommodate the Tuburan mayor and vice mayor into the party.
Sanchez recalled talking to Garcia to verify reports about the entry of the Suezos into One Cebu.
?Nangutana ko kung imo ba sila dawaton kay naa na man gud koy na organize didto (in Tuburan) (I asked her if she would accept them because I am organizing something in Tuburan),? he recalled telling Garcia to which she replied ?murag ana vice gov (Looks like it).
?I felt slighted. I cannot accept the Suezos; that is non-negotiable. While it may not necessarily mean I would leave the party, it may be one of the triggers,? Sanchez said.
Sanchez said he was expecting the governor to consult him and board members in the 3rd district before making any decisions. Sanchez said he already endorsed businessman Aljon Diamante as a mayoralty candidate for Tuburan.
