Go, Cebuanos pay tribute to Cory

First Posted 11:40:00 08/04/2009

University of Cebu owner Augusto Go has ordered flags in all his school campuses to be lowered to half mast and special prayers be held in school to pay tribute to the late former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino.

“Cory is a great loss to the Filipino people. She was an inspiration, the one who brought back democracy to the Philippines,” said Go.

He said Aquino served the presidency with honesty and integrity, and everybody looked up to the Philippines at that time.

Go said he was thankful for Aquino for appointing him officer-in-charge (OIC) vice mayor of Cebu City in 1986 after former President Ferdinand Marcos was ousted from power.

Lawyers in Cebu City will hold a special mass for former President Aquino at the Redemptorist Church on Wednesday in time of her burial, said former IBP Cebu City president Democrito Barcenas.

Barcenas, who was appointed OIC Cebu vice governor in 1986, said they will also hold a forum in Wednesday morning at the IBP Social Hall at the Capitol compound to honor the former president and to recall their experiences with her.

The Bishops Businessmen's Conference (BBC) Cebu chapter will also hold a Mass on Thursday 5 p.m. at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral for the peaceful rest of Aquino's soul. The public is invited.

The Cebu provincial government placed its flag at half-mast yesterday.
