In the chill of an early morning, two women ran out of a house, stark naked and desperate for help.
Neighbors loaned them clothes.
A 16-year-old girl later admitted to police that she stabbed to death a Norwegian national, whose house they had just escaped.
Police are looking closely into the death of 51-year-old Nils Frode Steen Aksnes, who died early Monday after he was stabbed by one of four persons, who claimed they were taken hostage by the foreigner inside his house in Grantville Subdivision, Consolacion town, north Cebu.
Aksnes was living with his nine-year-old daughter in the subdivision.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Eversley Childs Sanitarium and Hospital in Mandaue City.
The alleged hostage-taking and stabbing at about 5 a.m. Monday.
The 16-year-old girl admitted to having hit the Norwegian with an empty bottle and then stabbing him several times. She said they tried to overpower the foreigner, who was holding a .38 caliber revolver.
The other suspects included her cousin Nisil Ceriales, 35, who is the only man among the four visitors; his aunt Cheril Nocete, 38; and her 12-year-old daughter. All four are residents of Dumaguete City.
SPO1 Ricardo Ermac, investigator of the Consolacion Police station, said murder charges would be filed against the three adults even as investigators remain puzzled about the motive behind the bizarre killing.
Ermac said they were still verifying the claim of the visitors that they killed the Norwegian after he held them hostage at gunpoint for more than a day.
The victim's 9-year-old daughter appears to be a vital witness but the little girl was too shaken up to talk. She was taken by her mother, Theresa, who is estranged from the Norwegian.
Nocete said that she knew the foreigner through her nephew, Ceriales, and that she came to Cebu because the Norwegian asked her to bring her daughter so that his nine-year-old child would have a playmate.
She explained that both children knew each other when Aksnes and his daughter were staying in a rented house in Dumaguete City, where she had worked part-time as a house cleaner.
Ceriales also worked as a helper of the foreigner.
According to the visitors, the Norwegian was drunk and ordered the 16-year-old girl to perform sex with her cousin, 38-year-old Nisil “Bembo” Ceriales, inside the room.
Nocete said she and her 12-year-old daughter were tied up and that their hands and feet were bound by the Norwegian.
The mother said she was placed under the bed while her daughter was placed in a cabinet before the stabbing happened.
They described the foreigner as “desperate” after his Filipina wife had left him. The foreigner lived with his three children aged, 13, 9, and 4 years old. But the eldest and the youngest child are reportedly in Dumaguete City.
The visitors said Aksnes had financial problems since income from an apartment in Banawa, Cebu City went to his wife and nothing for him, said Ceriales.
Police recovered a .38 revolved with two live bullets, two knives, a bolo and nylon ropes from the house.
They recommended that Ceriales undergo a drug test since police also found shabu sniffing paraphernalia in the house. /With report from Jhunnex Napallacan
