HOW DO you make the youth appreciate waste segregation?
For Mandaue City, it’s through a jingle.
The ditty, composed and sung by Cebuano rap artist MC Rey Nacilla, will be hitting the public announcement speakers of schools and barangys soon, said Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes.
The mayor said he hoped that modern rap music would reach out to young residents better.
“Adto nato ig-on ang mga kabatan-onan sa kung unsa ilang ganahan (We can reach the youth in areas that appeal to them),” said Cortes.
Cortes said that the song will be distributed this week to the different schools of the city as well as in the different barangays.
The jingle would also be played during public activities and information dissemination campaigns of barangay officials.
The song sends the message that waste segregation is a siple process that can be done at home.
The song also warns of diseases such as influenza and dengue if people would not practice proper cleanliness.
Part of the jingle goes, “I-segregate kanunay inyung mga basura, sa saktong pamaagi, kita makakwarta. Ilain sa paghipus ang basurang malata. Ayaw isagol, sa basurang di-malata. Ang ma-recycle hala kini laina una molabay sa truck de carga.”
Barangay captains in Mandaue have recently formed patrols to monitor rivers for waste dumping activities.
According to some barangay captains, the city’s information campaign on waste segregation has not yet taken hold on all households.
