IN a bind over his mayoralty aspirations, Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama called on barangay officials supporting the candidacy of Mayor Tomas Osmeña's wife Margot to re-consider their decision.
Rama told reporters yesterday that his line is open to all barangay captains of Cebu City despite the manifesto signed by 56 of 80 barangay captains in the city.
He said he met some of the barangay captains who signed the manifesto.
“Just give me a chance to become a mayor para makita ninyo ang akong (so you can see my) leadership,” Rama said.
The vice mayor rejected claims by some barangay captains that he was only good in planning but cannot execute projects for the barangays.
Rama said his work as presiding officer of the City Council limited his work but the mayor gave him a chance to implement several projects.
As a presiding officer, the vice mayor said he managed to secure the national award for the Cebu City Council.
He said he has other programs like the night market, medical and dental missions that benefit city residents.
Rama said he could not allocate funds directly to the barangays since his work is limited to legislation.
He said that with Margot’s endorsement, he remains hopeful that he would clear everything with the barangay officials in time for the nomination of candidates by the ruling Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK). /Correspondent Chris Ligan
