CEBU CITY, Philippines ? No one will be crucified during this year?s Holy Week observation in Cebu City, Acting Mayor Michael Rama said.
Rama said he does not want a repeat of what happened in last year?s ?Buhing Kalbaryo? Passion Play, when Jose Marvic Escuyos, who volunteered to be nailed to a cross while reenacting the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, was crucified without anesthesia.
Reenactment organizers forgot to buy anesthesia for Escuyos.
Rama said he would not want to answer for any such incidents during this year?s Holy Week, when Catholic faithful celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus.
The acting mayor said the essence of the Buhing Kalbaryo Passion Play would remain even if no one is crucified.
Al Evangelio, who directed last year?s play, has signed on to direct this year?s play.
