A 27-YEAR-OLD man was arrested yesterday afternoon at the Cebu City pier area after 91 ampules of Nubain were allegedly found in his possession.
Regil Diola was arrested by the Maritime police after the drugs were found during a security check at 1:50 p.m.
Diola, who would supposed to board the Ocean Jet 1 for Tagbilaran City, Bohol, claimed that the Nubain ampules were sold to him by a female supplier in barangay Kamagayan, Cebu City.
Diola was frisked by security guard Edward Cabreros during the security check prior to boarding the vessel.
Cabreros found nine packs of assorted packs of cigarettes in the garter lining of his underwear. But the packs were too bulky, and didn’t look like these contained cigarettes, Cabreros opened these and found the nubain ampules, a prescription drug used to treat and prevent moderate to severe pain.
Diola was barred from boarding the vessel while the Maritime police were immediately alerted.
Diola was brought to the Maritime Police Station at the Cebu Port Authority office.
The suspect said he arrived in the city about 10 a.m. yesterday. He then went to Kamagayan to meet up with a certain Lola who sold him the Nubain.
He said he was supposed to bring the drugs to one “Aldos” in Tagbilaran. An ampule of Nubain could be sold at P200, according to PO1 Cedric Macalisang.
Diola was detained at the Maritime Police stockade in barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City pending filing of charges. CORRESPONDENT JUSTIN ANJULI K. VESTIL
