A 26-year-old call center agent was found dead inside a black garbage bag inside the room of a hotel in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City on Thursday night.
Room attendants discovered the body of Lynvi Ebarrita inside a black garbage bag that was abandoned at room 309 of the Nikkei Garden Hotel.
The garbage bag was also wrapped around with a packaging tape, according to the Mandaue police.
Ebarrita, who worked at the Teletech Customer Management Care at AS Fortuna in Mandaue, was naked when found. She suffered about 20 stab wounds in different parts of the body.
Police investigators said the victim could have been dead for four days ago since her body was already in an advanced state of decomposition.
She was identified through her sandals found under the bed and her earrings.
The police had yet to establish a motive for Ebarrita's killing.
Police said Ebarrita was reported missing by her relatives to the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) on Jan. 20.
Ebarrita and her unidentified companions were believed to have checked in at the hotel on the night of Jan. 18, said Insp. George Aniñon, MCPO homicide section chief.
The hotel staff said two women first checked in. One of them used the name Tina Panganiban. Ebarrita joined the two dawn of Jan. 19.
The three women had ordered beer, police said.
According to the staff who brought the drinks inside the room, there were only three women inside the room.
But the hotel staff could not recognize their faces because the lights had been turned off. The light from the television illuminated the room.
Earlier in the day, Ebarrita was with her officemates, Jommel Ensecpana and Wabert Diu and Evelyn Ensecpana, who was in town for the Sinulog festivities, said PO3 Protacio Tago Jr.
Evelyn Ensecpana was from Samar and is a cousin of Jommel Ensecpana.
They were having a drinking session in a restobar along Escario Street, Cebu City.
Later, Ebarrita, who was from Cubacub in Mandaue City, left early since she was supposed to meet a certain Edna in Subangdaku.
Evelyn Ensecpana hitched a ride on Ebarrita's taxicab and disembarked in Subangdaku before reaching the hotel, according to the policeman who interviewed her cousin Jommel Ensecpana.
Police said Edna was an acquaintance of Ebarrita in 2007.
Police said they believed that Edna, who was from Mindanao, called up Ebarrita and asked her to go to the hotel.
Senior Supt. Orlando Ualat, MCPO acting director, called for a case conference last night.
