CEBU CITY, Philippines - The Cebu City Development Council (CCDC) included a P21.2-million budget for the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) as one of the P160-million worth of projects to be funded under the Local Development Fund (LDF).

The executive committee of the CCDC approved the P160-million budget and the priority projects, where the allocation will be poured into.

The other project which got a big share of the fund was the development of Kawit Island at the South Road Properties (SRP).

Cebu City Administrator Francisco Fernandez said this is the first time that the City Development Council has set aside an amount for the rehabilitation of the CCMC in the LDF.

The P21.2-million allocation is a sign of acting Mayor Michael Rama's support to the plan to improve the services and structure of the controversial hospital.

Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, however, questioned the P21.2-million budget but did not oppose the decision.

?He just asked why there is an appropriation for the CCMC but he did not oppose it,? Fernandez told Cebu Daily News.

The budget for the rehabilitation of the hospital has the second highest appropriation next to the planned projects for the South Road Properties (SRP) specifically for Kawit Island which got P30 million.

Nagiel Bañacia, SRP chief operations officer, said that with the funding, the city will build the office for the city's senior citizens, which was one of the campaign promises of the mayor, and other beautification projects in SRP.

The barangay (village) development project got a P60-million budget, double last year?s P30 million allocation.

The LDF is taken from the P800-million Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) from the national government.

The allocation, however, will still have to be proposed for inclusion in the city's Annual Investment Plan and will have to be approved by the Cebu City Council and the mayor.
