WANT to learn how to make the famous tostado cookies of Santander town?
Watch the Sinulog on Jan. 18.
Santander’s parade contingent will perform the steps of making the southern town’s popular cookies.
Gov. Gwen Garcia, who will lead the group, said she wanted to showcase the town’s Tostado Festival.
“The dance will be of a totally different concept because it will feature how the tostado is made,” she said.
Santander dancers will demonstrate steps in making the local cookie, such as beating, kneading, and baking the cookie mix.
Garcia will wear a gown by Cebu designer Philip Rodriguez.
A sketch faxed yesterday to her office showed a long strapless gown with a tail of cloth flowing down the back.
She was scheduled to visit Rodriguez’s shop yesterday afternoon to finalize the gown’s details.
Garcia also wore a Rodriguez gown in her first Sinulog performance in 2005 and also in 2006.
In 2007 and 2008, Garcia wore creations of Carry Santiago. In 2008, she represented a “goddess of the sea,” with gold and turquoise scales and a tiara, to go with her performance with the Palawod festival dancers of the town of Bantayan.
The Santander contingent has been practicing at the covered gym in the town of Samboan since December, under the supervision of choreographer JP Cabigon.
Garcia and Capitol department heads who will join the performance will join practices next week. /Reporter Doris Bongcac
