CEBU CITY, Philippines – Vehicular traffic in Cebu City will be rerouted on January 9 to make way for the opening parade of the Sinulog Festival.
The afternoon parade starts from the Basilica del Sto. Niño in downtown Cebu City. It will then take Osmeña Boulevard toward the Fuente Osmeña Rotunda, then head back down Osmeña Boulevard toward the Cebu City Sports Center.
To make way for the parade, the section of Osmeña Boulevard between Fuente Osmeña and the Basilica del Sto. Niño will be closed to all vehicular traffic starting 2 p.m., according to an advisory released by the Cebu City Police Office’s Traffic Group.
Motorists are advised to avoid Osmeña Boulevard in the afternoon until the parade ends early evening.
Public utility jeepneys (PUJs) will be rerouted through roads parallel to Osmeña Boulevard, particularly V. Rama Avenue and F. Ramos Street.
PUJ franchises expected to be affected are those that ply Osmeña Boulevard or roads that intersect it, including jeeps coming from Capitol, Lahug, Banawa, Guadalupe, Talamban, Basak Pardo, Labangon, Inayawan, Basak, Pardo, Urgello, Mabolo and Mandaue.
Traffic enforcers will be deployed to guide motorists into interior roads.
Motorists, public utility drivers and other road users are advised to follow traffic signs to be installed around the parade route. /Correspondent Jully Venus Cuizon
