FLEET cards from oil company Petron is being considered by Mandaue City officials as a form of fuel subsidy in order to place a ceiling on the monthly fuel consumption of city-owned vehicles.

The Mandaue City Council proposed the procurement of fleet cards from Petron, Mandaue City Hall's accredited fuel supplier, in keeping with an ordinance that sets ceilings for fuel consumption for all officials of the city.

Councilor Emiliano Rosal said the council noted the huge fuel consumption of some departments in Mandaue City Hall in the past few months.

He said the fleet cards would also cover the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO).

The ordinance allocates up to 500 liters a month for the mayor, 300 liters for the vice mayor, 150 liters for department heads and, 120 liters for assistant department heads.

There were no fuel ceilings imposed on the police vehicles.

The measure also limits two vehicles each for the mayor and vice mayor.

The vehicles should be parked at the designated motorpool at night.

Penalties for violations of the ordinance, including the failure to comply with trip tickets consist of a P5,000 fine and 30-day imprisonment or both at the court's discretion.

It also covers sanctions to be imposed by the City Administrator's Office.

Rosal said through fleet cards, Petron can place a ceiling on the fuel consumption amount based on the recommendations of the Mandaue City government.

He said any excess in fuel consumption will have to be paid by the official using the vehicle.
