MANILA, Philippines -- The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday said the search for fishermen, two of them Filipinos, who went missing in rough seas off Taiwan last week has been called off.

In a text message, DFA Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Esteban Conejos said Engelbert Roda and Nelson Roda Jumagdao were with 16 other fishermen who have been missing since November 9.

The fishermen were part of the 28-man crew of the Taiwanese fishing boat F/B Fu Chi Hsiang 767, which capsized in rough seas near Kaoshiung.

Conejos said the two Filipinos left Manila for Hong Kong on November 6 and had boarded the fishing vessel for Taiwan.
