CEBU CITY, Philippines ? President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is expected to be in Cebu on Wednesday to attend the inauguration of a new port facility in Danao City and deliver the key note message at an international tourism forum in Lapu-Lapu City.
The President's stay will last less than a day, as she is expected to arrive at noon and fly back for Manila at around 3 p.m.
Arroyo may also visit the mobile morgue at the Cebu International Port after an invitation was extended by Vice Mayor Michael Rama, who is acting mayor in the absence of Tomas Osmeña.
From the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA), Arroyo and her entourage will proceed to Danao City for the inauguration of the Macapagal-Durano Fish Port. The facility is named after Arroyo's father, the late President Diosdado Macapagal, and the late congressman Ramon M. Durano, who were friends.
The port cost P86.5 million from the President's Social Fund, the Philippine Fisheries and Development Authority, and the Danao City government.
The project was completed on September 15.
After the inauguration, Arroyo will proceed to the Shangri-La Mactan Island Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City where she will deliver the keynote address in the United Nations-World Tourism Organization's 6th International Tourism Forum, to be attended by over 200 tourism officials from 67 countries.
The three-day conference will tackle tourism-related issues such as the effect of climate change on tourism, the role of women, sustainable tourism and poverty reduction through eco-tourism initiatives.
Following the conference, Arroyo will return to the MCIA and depart for Manila. /Correspondents Jully Venus Cuizon and Chris A. Ligan
