A FATHER, who lost his entire family during the sinking of the MV Princess of the Stars filed civil charges against the Sulpicio Lines Inc. (SLI) yesterday.
Jose Eric Manigo lost his wife Marissa, 24, and children Erica Marie, 3, and eight-month-old son Filcire Marc when the passenger vessel sank on June 21 off Sibuyan Island in Romblon at the height of Typhoon Frank.
Marissa was a junior computer science student.
Manigo of Pulpogan I, Consolacion town, Cebu, demanded P1.2 million in moral damages and another P1.2 million in exemplary damages.
Manigo said he had watched his family board the ship without knowing it would be the last time he would see them.
Manigo's case brought to 15 the total number of civil charges for damages filed against the SLI on the grounds of gross negligence, reckless imprudence and breach of contract to transport its passengers safely to their destination.
The civil cases of Orlando and Anita Tigcom was raffled to Regional Trial Court Branch 20, Cecenia and Verly Ann Sillar's to Branch 23, Aileen Ponpon's to Branch 10, George Jadena's to Branch 20, Andres and Emilta Anit's to Branch 9 and Norma Himaya's to Branch 6.
