FAMILIES displaced by landslides in barangay Sinsin, Cebu City, have been further displaced after the sports complex in barangay Sudlon 1 that they were using as a temporary shelter was taken back by Sudlon 1 officials.
The evacuees have since been living in crude shanties around the sports complex, said Sinsin barangay captain Ramon Ylaya Jr.
The evacuees, composed of around 50 families, have nowhere else to go since their homes in sitios Nangka and Sangi in Sinsin had long been destroyed by nature, while the relocation site eyed by City Hall was still under negotiation.
Ylaya urged City Hall to speed up the acquisition of the relocation site in Sinsin, which is two kilometers from the families' original homes and easily accessible to vehicles.
Councilor Gerardo Carillo said the delay in the acquisition was due to some lot owners? insistence that they be paid before they sign the deed of sale.
Carillo said he met yesterday with the lot owners ? heirs of Isaias Cansancio ? to explain to them government procurement procedures.
The heirs, however, expressed apprehension about government procedures. They said they dealt with the city before, wherein they signed the deed of sale first, but never got paid.
Carillo assured that payment will be made for the Sinsin lot, since the City Council has already allocated more than P900,000 to buy the 18,998-square-meter property, approval of which has already been signed by Mayor Tomas Osmeña.
The Commission on Audit, however, requires that a deed of sale be signed first before money can exchange hands, Carillo explained.
The councilor said the lot must be purchased soon because the city government still has to develop it before the evacuees could be relocated there.
