MANDAUE City’s Traffic Management Board (TMB) has asked the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to create new public utility jeepney (PUJ) routes that would cover the city’s reclamation area.
The board, in a resolution passed July 31, said many establishments have been put up at the reclamation area, with many more under construction.
But no PUJs ply the area.
The TMB suggested fielding small PUJs in the reclamation area.
Manny Rabacal, a member of the TMB, said the resolution was based on requests from commuters, including students, who complained that the only practical way to get to points in the reclamation area at present was to ride taxis or V-hires.
The TMB included in its resolution suggested PUJ routes that would pass through most of the roads in the reclamation area.
The TMB suggested experimenting with PUJ routes for 30 days and see how the public can best be served without congesting roads. /CORRESPONDENT CHRIS A. LIGAN
