CEBU CITY, Philippines ? A retired school teacher in Santander town, Cebu province faces attempted murder charges for trying to shoot down a young truck helper whom he suspected to be his wife?s lover.

The 64-year-old suspect identified as Alberto Aviso will also likely face parricide charges for shooting dead his 42-year-old wife Doris at their home.

Doris? shooting was reportedly witnessed by their children aged seven and five years old, Santander police said.

Aviso surrendered to the Santander municipal police and turned over a .38 revolver.

Prosecutor Nelia Sistoso of the Talisay City Prosecutors Office recommended a P120,000 bail for Aviso.

Sworn statements of truck helper Victor Basig and affidavits by Basig?s co-workers Eduardo Cabilogan and Renante Piedad were turned over to the court.

Basig said he and his co-workers were loading gravel into a cargo truck at about 3 p.m. on August 1 when Aviso showed up and without warning, fired shots at him.

But Aviso missed after Basig dropped to the ground and dashed for cover at a cargo truck, then towards the nearby Ceres Bus parking area.

As he ran, Basig said Aviso stormed back to his house at the back of their sand and gravel storage area.

Shortly after this, Basig claimed he heard another gunshot at Aviso?s home.

Police said Aviso argued with his wife before he shot her in the chest.

The revolver contained three unused bullets, while three spent shells were recovered. /Reporter Doris Bongcac
