A DAY after bogus text messages spread that he had a heart attack, Cebu CIty Mayor Tomas Osmeña said he was in good health.

The mayor, who just turned 60 this month, said he wasn’t following any particular diet for high blood pressure.

“No particular diet. But I like to cook and eat what I like to cook,” said Osmeña, who is a known steak lover.

Rather than be angry about it, the mayor laughed off the false alarm about his alleged heart attack.

In text messages to media outlets, Osmeña said last Friday’s misinformation was a “product of wishful thinking.”

His wife Margot Osmeña and Vice Mayor Michael Rama voiced shock over the text messages and called on the public not to believe them.

Instead, Rama said the public should pray for the well being of their government leaders.

“If I received that message, I would feel very uncomfortable but if we focus on those malicious messages we will be unproductive,” Rama said.

For her part, Margot Osmeña said while she is appalled by the text messages, she couldn’t blame speculations since the mayor had survived an aneurysm a few years ago.

Cebu City’s first lady said she received a phone call from a radio station asking whether the reports are true.

She said their family was already checking in at the Mactan Cebu International Airport on their way to Bacolod City when she received the call.

“People keep asking me how is his heart condition but he is just fortunate that there are no 'residual' effects from the operation,” Margot said in a telephone interview.

She said the mayor has regular check ups.

“He is very healthy and he is very OK,” Margot said. Reporter Marian Z. Codilla
