Mandaue City, Philippines – Parts of Mandaue City are included in a Wi-Fi zone following a free upgrade from the Mandaue city government's computerization program.
Edmund Sanchez, consultant on special projects, said the Wi-Fi connection is in its initial phase and covers the city plaza, Mandaue City Hall and near the center Jollibee outlet area.
“When the program goes full swing, Wi-Fi reach will extend until the city hospital and sports complex area,” he said.
Sanchez, however, said they won't compete with Internet cafes because the Wi-Fi will cater mostly to businessmen and students who have laptops.
Mandaue City's computerization program which began under the previous administration has an initial funding of P34 million.
Sanchez said the city’s computerization program will allow businesses to register in their database. /Reporter Dale Israel
