CEBU CITY, Philippines - Public schools in Cebu province were reminded not to hold school presentations where students wear skimpy, revealing clothes.

?I hope this will be seriously taken into consideration by the school board,? said Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia during a Local School Board meeting she presided over at the Capitol on Tuesday.

?My message to all school heads is that proper attire, body movements should be observed in school presentations... Somewhere along the way, we have already lost our point of decency,? she said.

And what about the state of dilapidated school buildings in Cebu province?

Garcia mentioned at least three times during the meeting that her administration already built 144 classrooms and would be building 292 more. She said town and education officials should meet to set guidelines for these projects.

Garcia has strongly campaigned against the use of scanty costumes in town fiestas and school presentations since last year.

She walked out of a beauty pageant in a southern town after she saw female candidates in bikinis.

Provincial Board Member Juan Bolo said he would sponsor a resolution on Monday asking Regional Director Carolino Mordeno of the Department of Education to issue a memo banning skimpy clothes in public schools. /Reporter Doris Bongcac
