WHEN he walks down the street, no one would think Lou Vincent Suarez was anything but a woman.
With a curvy figure, long blonde hair, a heart-shaped face and a hefty bosom, Suarez can turn heads.
The 23-year-old makeup artist told he was shocked to read in the papers that his marriage to an American was the subject of a petition for annulment and that his spouse was “fooled” into marrying someone who was not female.
Suarez said he met the American through email correspondence back in 2006.
At the time, Lou said the American already knew he is gay.
He said even with that knowledge the American promised to marry him in civil wedding rites on June 27, 2006.
Lou said he didn’t hesitate to submit his requirements for the civil wedding which includes a birth certificate.
Lou happened to be registered as a female, a clerical error.
Gisila, Lou's mother, explained that a staffer in a private hospital where she delivered Lou on Sept. 14, 1984 made the mistake of registering Lou as female.
She said she was surprised when she saw her son’s birth certificate.
Fastforward to 2006 and Lou recalled that during his civil wedding, he wore a skirt and a blouse. “The judge (Judge Rosabella Tormis of MTCC-Branch 4) really did not know that I'm a male,” Lou said.
Interviewed at home in Cebu City, Lou spoke in a relaxed, low voice.
But one can notice the small Adam’s apple in his neck.
Lou showed to CDN his awards for winning sev eral gay beauty contests when he was 18 years old, including a second runner finish in the 2003 Miss Gay Lapu-Lapu.
In fact, he said his American husband financed his bid for the Miss Gay Mandaue in 2006.
Through it all Lou said he was even thankful that the American initiated their separation because he could no longer understand Lou.
He said his “honey” would get mad whenever Lou could not immediately answer his phone calls or email.
“Seloso kaayo siya, (He’s the jealous type),” said Lou.
He said their fights began when the American learned it would take two years to process a spousal visa.
But Lou said there were plans for him to undergo a $500,000 sex change operation in Thailand.
Lou underwent psychiatric evaluation on Oct. 22, 2006 for this.
According to psychiatrist Robert Cañete, Lou was psychologically prepared to undergo the sex-change operation.
“He is convinced that he is a female for many years. He has not shown any sign that he is uncomfortable with his condition and he does not regret the idea of losing his male genetalia,” Canete remarked.
Canete said Lou was fully aware the operation was only limited to changing his external appearance and that it was impossible for him to become pregnant.
The plans were aborted when the couple’s fights began.
Lou said he granted an interview with CDN to deny allegations that he deceived his American boyfriend to believe he was nothing but a woman.
Lou said he was disappointed to hear adverse radio commentaries about on him following the filing of the annulment petition by the American, who has since returned to the U.S.
“Wala ko mangilad sa akong bana, iyaha tong kagustuhan nga magpakasal mi,” Lou said.
