CEBU CITY, Philippines - The municipality of Aloguinsan on Sunday showcased local talents in their third Kinsan Festival.

Five contingents from the different public elementary and high schools in the municipality competed in Sunday?s dance showdown.

Dressed in colorful costumes, the contingents created dance steps to imitate the movement of the Kinsan, a variety of grayish colored fish that is abundant in the municipality. The competition also showed the way of life of the fisherfolk in the area.

Aloguinsan Mayor Cynthia Moreno said she was hopeful that through the noise the festival has created, the town would get the attention of tourists who come to Cebu to explore its different attractions.

?I am happy that our governor (Governor Gwendolyn Garcia) is giving importance to the countryside. We can are also an alternative destination,? she said in Cebuano.

The contingent from the Aloguinsan National High School won the grand prize in the ritual and showdown competition and won second place in the street dancing competition.

Rhodora Alomodin, the contingent?s lead dancer, won as this year?s festival queen.

The Bonbon Elementary School contingent won second place, while the Sto. Rosario National High School won third place.

The grand-prize winner got P30,000; P20,000 for second prize and P10,000 for third prize.

Moreno said the municipality got its name during the Spanish period. Aloguinsan was earlier referred to as ?ulo sa Kinsan.? It used to be part of Pinamungahan town before it became a separate municipality.

She said it was important for the people in the municipality to know the origin of the place and their origin as a people so they would unite and strive to work for its progress.

The municipality of Aloguinsan is the first stop of the June 12-13 midwestern Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo.

Suroy-Suroy guests will pass by Baluarte Park, a small hill located at the back of the municipal hall.

The forested hill shows ruins of a watch tower that overlooks the Tañon Strait.

Moreno said they want to promote Aloguinsan for adventure tourism.

The town has a diving spot located in Barangay (village) Kantabogon, which they could show off to visitors. They also have areas fit for rappelling and snorkeling.
