THE ROADS along Governor Cuenco Avenue in Cebu City may be closed for the ongoing Banilad flyover construction unless negotiations for the acquisition of the Sulpicio Private lot go well.

WTG Construction, the contractor of the project, couldn’t finish the fifth pier for the foundation of the 390-meter flyover because of the delay in negotiations for the Sulpicio private lot in barangay Banilad, said Engr. Chris Semilla, supervising engineer for the project.

The lot will expand the southbound lane for vehicles to use and ease traffic congestion in the area.

Semilla reported in yesterday’s session of the City Council that the four posts for the foundation of the flyover have already been built. They are just waiting to do the fifth one.

He said if they push through with building the last post, they will be forced to close all the roads affected by the construction.

“If they proceed with the construction of the flyover without acquiring the Sulpicio lot, then there will be full closure of the roads,” reported Semilla.

If they build the final pier without the acquisition of the Sulpicio lot, that would only leave 1.5 meters on the left and right lanes which is not enough for one lane.

Rep. Raul del Mar of the Cebu City north district is still negotiating with the owners.

Even with the delays, the P86-million project will be finished as scheduled, assured Semilla.
