CEBU CITY, Philippines ? Two drum corps whose services were hired by Zapatera Night High School and Pardo Elementary School during the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan and the Sinulog Grand Parade on Monday filed a complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman for nonpayment of their services.
Cipriano Duazo, head of the 25-drum corps, said Dr. Lolita Secuya, principal of Zapatera Night High School, failed to pay them P10,000 for their services from January 2 until the day of the Sinulog sa Kabataan on January 16.
He said Secuya wanted them to perform up to the Sinulog Grand Parade on January 20 but they declined because it was not part of the agreement.
He said there is no reason for Secuya not to pay them because the Sinulog Foundation allocated P50,000 for each school which participated in the Sinulog sa Kabataan.
But Secuya said it was another teacher who had hired the drum corp. She said the group violated an agreement that they perform until January 20.
The Zapatera contingent did not participate in the Sinulog Grand Parade because they did not have a drum corps.
Secuya said the school will pay but they still have to raise funds. She said the school had spent more than what was raised for its presentation.
Another drum corps also said they will file a complaint against the choreographer and teacher of Pardo Elementary School for failing to give them their balance of P15,000.
Armando Tudlasan, head of the 23-member drum corps hired by Pardo Elementary School, said that Gil Ramirez promised to pay them P23,000 but they were only paid P8,000.
He said they were assured that the balance would be given after the Sinulog but they have yet to receive payment. /Reporter Nilda Gallo
