WAS it arson or an accident?
With the puzzling circumstances of the torching of electric posts in San Fernando town in southern Cebu by still unknown persons, a Capitol official called for police to assign men to closely monitor cell sites and other business establishments in the town.
Senior Supt. Carmelo Valmoria, Cebu Provincial Police Chief, said police have no evidence that the burning of the posts was done by rebels.
The revelation of a National Transmission Corp. (Transco) lineman that both the wooden and the replacement steel posts were standing close together led to speculation that that the fire could have been an accident during the transfer of transmission lines.
Transco management earlier said one pole was used to replace another, an account that was later changed.
Provincial Board Member Juan Bolo said he will ask the provincial police to secure the cell sites and other business establishments.
Bolo made the call after the burning of the post in San Fernando on Tuesday which caused a black out in 17 towns and a city in southern Cebu.
Valmoria however said that police are not only monitoring vital installations in San Fernando but also in the entire province.
Bolo will also ask police in a resolution to be discussed on Monday's PB session to monitor the alleged perpetrators of the Transco's poles.
Valmoria, however, refused to comment when asked what possible angles they were pursuing.
He said that an investigation is still ongoing. Reporter Nilda L. Gallo
