A TANOD in barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City, who was shot while responding to a trouble alarm last year, received a cash reward from the Cebu City government.
Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña yesterday gave a check worth P100,000 to Rene dela Cerna, a former police officer.
Dela Cerna was shot in the abdomen when he responded to a trouble alarm involving a group of youngsters last Oct. 31, 2009.
The tanod was in the hospital for a week.
Dela Cerna said the incident had not stopped him from doing his job.
?Moresponde gihapon ko og alarma kay kon mahadlok ta mogara ang mga kriminal magpadayon sa ilang binuhatan ug masamok na hinoon ang barangay (I still respond to any alarm because if we would be afraid, criminals will continue with their wrongdoings thus creating trouble in the barangay),? he said.
Dela Cerna was also one of the awardees in last month's 73rd Cebu City charter day. He received a plaque but the mayor promised him a cash reward. Correspondent Chris Ligan
