The Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) is ready to deploy a task force to protect the sanctity of this year's Holy Week celebrations.
Senior Supt. Erson Digal, director of CPPO, said Task Force Igmat has been put together to maintain peace and order and decency in Cebu towns during Christianity's holiest week.
Digal said the issue of bikini shows during the Holy Week was tackled in a recent meeting with Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and town mayors.
Garcia had filed a case against organizers and participants of a bikini show during Holy Week last year on Bantayan Island.
?Sigurado na gyud ni nga dili na ni mahitabo (We are sure taht these shows would no longer be held),? Digal said.
Supt. Eduardo Saavedra will head the task force. Its members will monitor strategic locations beginning on March 30 or Holy Tuesday.
Digal said the police chief of Sta. Fe town on Bantayan Island will regulate the issuance of permits to businesses operating during the Holy Week.
Additional police teams from the Regional Mobile Group (RMG), Special Reaction Unit (SRU), and different police stations will be posted in other towns with big Holy Week celebrations, like Minglanilla and Argao.
Digal asked the public to be patient during the Holy Week because they will conduct checkpoints on those days.
We ask the public to be patient during these times because we will conduct checkpoints. This is not only good for us but for everyone so we have a good observance of Holy Week,? Digal said.
