First Posted 10:39:00 03/18/2010

AN UNIDENTIFIED gunman shot dead a jeepney conductor in barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City past midnight Wednesday.

Antonio Ycong, 22, died of three gunshot wounds in the body.

Police said Ycong was talking with a taxi driver in front of a pharmacy in sitio Lugsungon around 12:30 a.m. when a motorcycle-riding man arrived.

The man approached Ycong and the taxi driver, pulled out a gun and pointed it at the taxi driver, who ran away.

The man then aimed the gun at Ycong and squeezed the trigger thrice, said SPO3 Rex Ibanez, investigator of the Lapu-Lapu City police.

Ycong was shot in the abdomen, lower back and left hip. He was rushed to the Mactan Doctor's Hospital where he died a few minutes later.

Police said no witnesses have come forward to shed light on the incident.

The taxi driver has not yet surfaced.

Police said the gunman may have used a revolver since no empty shell was found at the crime scene.

Police are looking into personal grudges as a possible motive behind the killing.
