A Japanese national and his girlfriend were robbed at gunpoint and tied up inside their resort room in Verdemar Golf Club hotel in barangay Bancasan, San Remigio town, northern Cebu on Monday.
Police said Akihito Fukuhara, 52, of Tokyo, Japan and Stephanie Ricablanca, 20, of barangay Sangi, Lapu-Lapu City, reported the loss of about 100,000 Japanese yen.
Also taken from the couple were a cellphone, MP4, Gucci wallet, sling bag, keys and one ream of Lucky Strike cigarettes.
The couple were sleeping when someone knocked on the door of their room around 12:30 a.m.
When Fukuhara opened the door, two bonnet-wearing men poked a knife and a handgun at him, said PO3 Jovan Placencia of the San Remegio police.
The two robbers then tied the hands of the couple with nylon rope before taking their belongings.
When the culprits left, the couple untied the rope and sought help from other guests, police said.
Police were looking into reports that the resort had no security guards.
Senior Supt. Erson Digal, director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), ordered an investigation to find out whether the robbery was an inside job or there were other guests involved.
