What was supposed to be an arrest of a carnapping suspect turned into a drug bust when he and his brother were found wtih shabu in their possession in barangay Mangiaw, Asturias town, Cebu yesterday.
Asturias policemen and army soldiers arrested Faustino Tagpuno, 47, and his brother Josefine, 49, near Faustino?s home in sitio Ubangon.
Chief Insp. Gerard Ace Pelare Pelare said they spotted the brothers talking prior to the arrest.
When policemen approached, the two men tried to run.
Police collared Faustino and eventually caught up with his brother.
Police said they found in Faustino's possession 20 medium sized sachets of suspected shabu and P1,700 cash while 25 small sachets of shabu and P300 were found in Josefine's pockets.
Pelare said police didn't know Faustino was involved in illegal drugs until they checked his records where police intelligence files showed that he was classified as a level two drug pusher.
Pelare said the two men get their supply of shabu in Cebu City.
Charges of illegal drug possession will be filed against Faustino and Josefine at the Cebu Provincial Prosecutors? Office.
