The barangay tanod who was shot while responding to a robbery alarm last Feb. 24 died yesterday dawn at the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).

Danilo Cabaluna's alleged attacker, Christopher Albo, remains at large.

?It?s a shame and disappointing that it took one week after the incident happened before the police started their investigation,? said Basak Pardo barangay captain Dave Tumulak in an interview over radio dyAB.

Tumulak said it was the barangay who gave the police information and leads to follow.

?Even though they reacted late to help, we are still grateful to the police. At least they are doing something even if it comes late,? Tumulak said.

Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador Jr., he understood Tumulak's frustration and assured that the police are doing their best to arrest the suspect.

The Cebu City police chief said said law enforcers couldn?t focus on the Cabaluna case alone as they were busy monitoring the arrival in Cebu of a Mindanao-based robbery group.

The tanod was shot in the head while chasing three suspected robbers in barangay Basak-Pardo.

Tumulak asked the Office of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) of Cebu City to give additional financial aid to the victm?s family.

He said the amount of P5,000 was ?just not enough? and appealed to ABC president Eugenio Faelnar to give it a boost.

?After all, these tanods are a big help and are in the frontline of fighting crimes in the barangays,?said Tumulak.

Basak Pardo is contributing P200,000 a year to the ABC out of the barangay?s P6 million income, said Tumulak.

Faelnar said the ABC is willing to increase the financial assistance to P10,000.

Faelnar said he also encouraged the tanods to contribute P20 each as their financial assistance.

Tumulak has also asked Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña to allow the tanod's wife to work at the City Hall so she could sustain their family.
