Peacekeeping teams in every barangay will still be maintained despite the declaration that Bohol and Cebu Provinces are already free of insurgency.
Chief Supt. Lani-O Nerez, director of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), said authorities will remain vigilant to keep Bohol and Cebu insurgency-free.
During the Regional Peace and Order Council in Central Visayas (RPOC-7) meeting yesterday at the Cebu Capitol, Nerez instructed the chiefs of police in Bohol and Cebu to maintain peace and order in their areas of jurisdiction by forming the peacekeeping forces.
The peacekeeping forces will be composed of policemen and barangay tanods.
Also during the meeting, Senior Supt. Melvin Buenafe, chief of the Regional Intelligence Division of PRO-7, said Cebu became the top tourist destination last year because it?s peaceful.
Buenafe said no major crimes such as kidnapping, terrorist attacks or even media killing happened in Cebu last year.
Buenafe said the police were also successful in their campaign against criminality and loose firearms. They were also active in pursuing persons wanted by the law.
Buenafe also cited the success of the Task Force Sinulog which played a key role in the success of the annual Sinulog festivities.
Also during the meeting, police said law enforcement authorities were determining other places in Cebu that could be considered under election watch list.
The towns of Sta. Fe, Carmen and Cordova as well as Bogo City have been tagged as election watch list areas due to history of political violence and intense political rivalry.
Other places that would be placed under election watch list would be announced in April, said Nerez.
Buenafe said part of the police plan's next year is to increase police visibility.
Buenafe said police would also focus on the security of the night shift workers like call-enter agents.
On the other hand, Randy Pedroso, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA-7) director, said several drug operations were conducted last year after Cebu was considered as drug transshipment area.
Pedroso said that in 2009, a total of 1,075 drug operations were conductced that led to the arrest of 1,280 persons and the filing of 1,034 drug cases.
