Policemen in the team that killed suspected gun-for-hire Ronel “Tata” Wagas in Compostela town received medals in yesterday’s 19th PNP anniversary ceremony in Camp Sergio Osmeña.
The Medalya Ng Kagalingan was given to Supt. Rodolfo Albotra Jr., chief of Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB); Supt. Jason Capoy, Mandaue City police deputy chief and Supt. Marvin Sanchez, chief of the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Force (RAIDSOTF) and their team members.
Wagas, 23, was shot and killed Thursday night when policemen tracked him down in barangay Tag-ubi, Compostela to serve a warrant of arrest for murder.
Wagas was accused of killing a policeman, PO3 Clint Cañete, in 2008 in Mandaue City.
Achievements of the PNP regional office in 2009 were held up as a model for the Visayas.
Officials said no robbery or kidnapping was reported. In the anti-illegal drugs campaign, police conducted 953 operations and arrested 1,042 suspects. A total of 839 cases were filed in court.
A total of 11,080 loose firearms were recovered in Bilang Boga and Kontra Boga campaigns, where 510 persons were arrested and 413 cases of firearm violations were filed in court.
There were 1,018 suspects arrested in the anti-illegal fishing campaign and 147 cases filed in court. CORRESPONDENT JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
