A MAN was killed while two brothers were wounded when they were shot allegedly by members of a youth gang in barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City at dawn yesterday.
Denver Mahusay, 21, died of gunshot wounds in the head, chest and back. Jimmy Baring, 25, was shot in the right shoulder while his younger brother Sacarias, 21, was wounded in the back.
One of the suspects was arrested and mobbed by bystanders.
Police said that suspect Emilito Arong was seen running away with other unidentified men after the shooting.
Arong was chased by bystanders and was mauled, said police.
Arong denied involvement in the shooting. He was later turned over to responding policemen.
Witnesses identified the other suspects as Homer Ybañez, 20, of sitio Datag, barangay Maribago; and Jovanie Liston of barangay Mactan.
Police said they received reports that the suspects were members of the Bloods gang.
But Arong, who was detained at the detention cell of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO), denied that he was a member of the group.
The three victims were on board a motorcycle traveling along M.L. Quezon highway when unidentified gunmen opened fire around 3:50 a.m., said SPO3 Rex Ibañez, investigator of the LLCPO Crime Against Persons Desk.
Police said the victims were headed to the house of Mahusay in barangay Punta Engaño after attending a disco in barangay Mactan.
Mahusay was killed on the spot. The two brothers were rushed by paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (Eruf) to the Mactan Doctor?s Hospital. They were later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City.
Police said personal grudges could be the motive in the shooting.
