A BUSINESSMAN was arrested yesterday for shooting a policeman in barangay Talamban, Cebu City.
Enrico Dionson, 50, who operates a lechon manok business, allegedly fired at an off-duty policeman responding to a trouble alarm in the area.
But the bullet missed PO2 Junbert Acosta, 29, of sitio Hillside, also in barangay Talamban.
Investigation showed that Acosta responded to a trouble alarm in the barangay about 2:45 a.m. yesterday.
He was on a motorcycle and was not in uniform when the incident happened.
Acosta said that when he arrived in the area, a group of men including Dionson blocked his path. A scuffle then ensued when Dionson pulled him from the motorcycle.
Acosta said Dionson was saying: “Kauban ka sa nagdunggab sa akong pag-umangkon (You are one of those who stabbed my nephew).”
Acosta said he was able to defend himself and introduced himself as a policeman. When Dionson and his companions realized their mistake, they fled in different directions.
Acosta said he tried to pursue Dionson, who allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at him several times.
Acosta said he only fired a warning shot because he might hit someone else because of the distance.
Acosta then sought assistance of the Special Weapons and Tactics team who conducted a hot pursuit operation. They arrested Dionson near his house.
Dionson was detained at the Cebu City Police Office pending the filing of charges. /Correspondent Chris A. Ligan
