First Posted 10:03:00 02/07/2010

FORTY-FOUR brand new police vehicles were given to the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7).

The new police vehicles which came from Camp Crame will be distributed to several police stations in Central Visayas as part of the Integrated Transformation Program (ITP), said Chief Supt. Lani-O Nerez, director of PRO-7.

Nerez said the ITP has a P50-billion fund for its five-year program. The ITP was launched in 2008 and will last till 2012.

Nerez said that P2 billion will be released every year and will be used for for the acquisition of new patrol cars, firearms and other equipment to be used for police investigation.

Nerez said that for this year, 50 percent of the budget will be used for enhancing police stations.

The PRO-7 chief said the new vehicles will be distributed to different police offices especially to those who don't have service vehicles.

Nerez said the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) is not one of the beneficiaries as it has already received several patrol cars from the city government.

Nerez urged the recipients of the cars to take care of the vehicles and that only those policemen with driver's license should be allowed to drive./CORRESPONDENT JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
