A COUPLE filed a damage suit of over P900,000 against the Cebu Electric Cooperative (Cebeco) for the death of their 17-year-old son.
Spouses Bienvinido and Liberata Aleonar, residents of barangay Poblacion 1 in Carcar City, southern Cebu, said their son Manolito died in a vehicular accident allegedly caused by a cable wire installed by Cebeco on the roadside in Carcar.
?The filing of this complaint for damages is because the defendant was negligent in installing the cable, and this fact is the proximate cause of the untimely death of Manolito,? the plaintiffs said.
Last Sept. 5, Bienvinido was driving his tricycle along with his son when he suddenly stepped on the brakes because of a cable wire installed by the defendant along the side of the road.
Because of the impact, a broken glass from the tricycle hit Manolito's neck.
He was brought to the South General Hospital in Minglanilla town, but he died later.
The plaintiffs spent P162,491.47 in hospital expenses.Damages on their tricycle also reached P10,000.
They also demanded P500,000 in moral damages and P300,000 in exemplary damages for the ?mental anguish and sleepless nights? following the death of their son.
