POLICE have warned retailers of firecrackers not to sell smuggled Chinese pyrotechnics since they don't meet local requirements.
Supt. Jacinto Ceasar, chief of the Firearms and Explosive Unit (FEU), said most Chinese firecrackers are considered substandard based on their inspections.
He said they will inspect these retailers to ensure that they don't sell these pyrotechnics to the public.
Ceasar said they talked to manufacturers in barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu City about this.
The area is known to house three licensed firecracker manufacturers in Cebu.
The Lapu-Lapu City Council passed an ordinance, prohibiting anyone from smoking near the firecracker factories.
Those wishing to sell firecrackers should adhere to requirements set by their office, Ceasar said.
These requirements consist of the amount of ingredients used in processing firecrackers.
Authorities also advised retailers to display their products in a secure area and not in crowded places.
