First Posted 08:01:00 11/18/2009

Police yesterday responded to trouble alarms caused by the sighting of a python snake in a public school and a cow that went berserk in Metro Cebu.

Police had to shoot the cow in the legs after it escaped from the abattoir in barangay Mabolo, Cebu City about 4 p.m.

From the abattoir, the cow was chased to the Cebu Business Park.

Along the way, the cow gored one person and hit four others, including a man riding a motorcycle, said PO3 Jeffrey Larrobis of the Mabolo police.

The animal was subdued farther off in barangay Kasambagan where it was shot down by members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) at the request of the owner, Welwel Abad of San Fernando town.

The injured persons were brought to separate hospitals in Cebu City.

Meanwhile, Mandaue city police had to rush to the Subangdaku Elementary School where an eight-foot python was found about 9 a.m.

It took at least 20 people, including policemen and civilians, to catch the snake which weighed about 50 killograms.

PO3 Nelson Mayola said they had to fetch a snake expert in barangay Centro to help them catch the snake at the back of the school.

The python was later brought to the police headquarters.

The snake will be turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Central Visayas.
