POLICE yesterday arrested a construction worker who was linked to the Nov. 9 killing of the bodyguard of a town mayor.

Jonathan Salva was tagged by witnesses as one of the two men who killed Nonito Taoy in Carmen town, northern Cebu, said Insp. Carlos Reyes, chief of the Carmen police.

Taoy, a former policeman, was the bodyguard of Carmen Mayor Sonia Pua.

Salva was arrested by police in his home in barangay Lamac, Consolacion town.

Salva was interrogated by police but no details were revealed.

Police said Salva was previously convicted for drug charges and was released on probation.

But Salva failed to comply with the terms of his probation when he failed to show up at the probation office, prompting the issuance of a warrant of arrest by Regional Trial Court Judge Edito Anemesio in Danao City.

Senior Supt. Jesus Gaquing, chief of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO, said murder charges will be filed against Salva.

Police are still looking for Salva?s companion.

Mayor Pua earlier offered P100,000 reward to whoever could offer information that would lead to the arrest of the gunmen who killed his bodyguard.
