THE bodies of suspected robbery gang leader Alvin Flores and one of his companions, who were killed in the Oct. 29 raid of a beach apartment in Compostela town, northern Cebu, were cremated on Friday and Saturday.

Because of the controversy over the case, their families only wanted the ashes to be brought home to Metro Manila.

Flores’ gang was tagged responsible for the Rolex Store heist in Greenbelt 5, Makati City. Flores was cremated on Friday while Mark Salamanca's body was cremated yesterday morning in Cebu City.

Relatives of both suspects, through their lawyer Cayetano Santos claimed the bodies in the National Bureau of Investigation morgue. Dr. Rene Cam, NBI-7 medico-legal officer, did not oppose the cremation.

“The NBI is done with our part. Families and relatives can now take responsibility of the bodies,” Cam said.

The NBI performed an autopsy and paraffin tests on the bodies.

According to the NBI on Friday, the hands of the dead suspects had nitrates which indicates that they had fired guns.

Cam said full results of the autopsy and paraffin tests would be released on Monday.

Flores, Salamanca, Richie Jihapon and Roger Sanchez were killed during an NBI-led raid in a rented seaside house in Compostela town.

One gang member, Rene Batiancila, was captured and is cooperating with NBI investigators in Manila. /REporter Ador Vincent S. Mayol and Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
