POLICEMEN were sent to secure the funeral wake of slain robbery victim Gina Ponsica in the family residence in Barili town, Cebu.
Policemen were also sent to the private hospital in Cebu City where her husband, former Barili Vice Mayor Luisito Ponsica, was confined for bullet wounds suffered during the Wednesday attack, said Provincial Police Chief Jesus Gaquing. He said it was his initative to provide protection.
The copra businessman was discharged from the hospital on Thursday.
Gaquing said police were pursuing some leads but wouldn’t give details about the ongoing operation.
Two masked men shot the Ponsica couple as their vehicle pulled up in front of their house about 8 p.m. Wednesday after a road trip from Cebu City where the couple had withdrawn about P500,000 cash from the bank for their copra business. The money, kept in Gina’s bag, was taken by the robbers.
Police investigators said the face masks of the holduppers suggested that the victims may have been familiar with their assailants.Only Luisito survived the shooting./Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
