COMMERCIAL establishments were reminded to exercise caution in hiring security guards who don't have the training for their job.
Supt. Rex Derillo, chief of the Regional Security Agency and Guards Supervisory Unit (RSAGSU), said there are security agencies deploying fake licenses for their guards.
?Clients have to double-check the papers of their security guards,? said Derilo.
Derilo issued the reminder in the wake of a recent botched entrapment operation by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA-7) in a bar along Osmeña Boulevard, downtown Cebu City.
PDEA-7 agents filed obstruction of justice charges against Andres Villacorda, a security guard at the bar who reported to police about their presence while they were negotiating with a suspected drug pusher.
Police later found out that Villacorda had an expired license.
Derilo said the bar management should verify the documents on the firearms issued by the security agency to the guards.
He said there were agencies that issue ?paltik? or locally made firearms to their guards.
Derilo said security guards should undergo training like firearm proficiency and detecting criminal elements.
He said hiring competent security guards is important especially during the Christmas season, when robberies and petty crimes are on the rise. Correspondent Chito Aragon
