UNIDENTIFIED burglars ransacked the rented house of a Korean couple in barangay Banilad, Mandaue City and ran away with assorted jewelry worth about half a million pesos.

Cho Eun Jung, 38, told police investigators that she discovered the break-in at dawn Thursday.

She said jewelry worth about P450,000 and a cellphone worth P9,000 were stolen.

Jung said she was preparing to go to their family-owned night bar when she discovered that the two drawers of a cabinet inside their room were forced open and the items inside were missing.

According to the police investigation, the burglars entered the houseby climbing the grill fence.

The burglars then took a steel ladder and climbed into the room of the couple on the second floor, entering through a sliding glass window.

The couple's eight-year old son, their two nieces, two female helpers and a driver were in the house during the incident.

Jung's husband, a tourist guide, was away during the incident.

Police are still looking for witnesses to help them identify the culprits. CORRESPONDENT CHRIS A. LIGAN
