NOT only did he lose his earnings, a taxi driver also lost his taxicab when he was robbed at gunpoint by two motorcycle-riding men in barangay Alang-Alang, Mandaue City at dawn Wednesday.
Police said the Marmi taxi driven by Jose Abendan, 39, had two passengers on board when it was stopped by the unidentified robbers.
Abendan, a resident of Toledo City, told police that about 4 a.m., an elderly couple flagged him down in Cebu City and directed him to go to the Lapu-Lapu City public market.
The passengers told Abendan to pass by M. Sanchez Street in barangay Alang-Alang to pick up a traveling bag.
When they arrived at about 4:30 a.m., Abendan disembarked to load the bag in the car’s luggage compartment.
While loading the bag, a black motorcycle with two men wearing close-faced helmets arrived.
The backrider approached the driver, poked a .45 caliber pistol at him and declared a holdup.
Abendan said he handed over P2,700, his day’s earnings.
The robber then boarded the taxi, with the couple inside, and sped off with the motorcycle following behind.
Police have yet to determine the whereabouts of the taxicab and the two passengers as of press time yesterday. The taxi had license plate GXZ-512.
