SIX PRIVATE prosecutors in the parricide case against cult leader Ruben Ecleo Jr. have requested Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Soliver Peras to continue handling the case.
They said they believe in the judge’s “impartiality”. A motion for reconsideration was filed in court yesterday.
“The issue therefore is not with the prosecution or the defense. The issue is with the media. The prosecution wholeheartedly abides with the restrictions this honorable court imposed on the public, media, and the prosecution and defense,” lawyer Fritz Quinañola said.
Any inhibition would delay the the case which has dragged on for seven years already, they said. The six prosecution include lawyers Alfredo Sipalay, Democrito Barcenas, Nicetas Ybanez, Quiñanola, Kit Enriquez, and Gina Co.
Judge Peras has yet to rule on the motion. Last week he inhibited himself from hearing the case, citing media criticism about his earlier order for extra security measures, including requiring two sets of IDs and advance listing of names of those who would attend the Ecleo trial.
If Peras won’t change his mind about quitting, the case will be reraffled to another judge.
