One week. That was the time given by Cebu City Police Chief Patrocinio Comendador Jr. to Lorega barangay tanod Ryan Mabaga to surrender before charges are filed against him.
Mabaga is the suspect in the killing of 24-year-old Eric Fuentes in New Imus Road, barangay Lorega, Cebu City early Monday morning.
Police said a grudge between Mabaga and Fuentes may be the motive of the killing.
The victim's sister, who witnessed the shooting, identified Mabaga as the one who shot Fuentes.
Fuentes was sitting outside his house at about 4:45 a.m. on Monday with a companion when Mabaga arrived, pulled out a gun and fired at Fuentes and his companion.
Fuentes and his companion tried to run away after seeing the tanod but Mabaga chased them and continued firing at them.
Fuentes’ bloodied body was later found on the street. He had a gunshot wound in the head.
Police also found a toy gun beside his body.
Fuentes sister told Comendador that his brother carried the toy gun to scare his enemies away.
Mabaga also fled and went into hiding after the shooting.
Comendador said police would conduct hot pursuit operation against Mabaga.
Comendador said he was giving Mabaga a chance to surrender because of his anti-crime role as a tanod in the barangay.
